ARTIST BOOTCAMP SERIES
Artist bootcamp consists of a series of exercises that focus on strengthening the vocal capacities of a performers while moving in a space. Artists will be prompted to participate in these exercises as a means of improving live-performance stamina, breath control, and their overall technical quality of movement. Artist bootcamp is a 60-minute portion of this intensive on both day 1 and 2.
CONNECTING THE VOICE
Just like any other instrument, learning how to use your voice is a discipline. Our voices are the only instrument that we can not pack up at the end of the day. They are a part of our bodies and are directly affected by how we care for ourselves. Vocal training is more than just singing and speaking. In this session, artists will learn the basics of the voice, tips for how to take care of it, and ways to discover what your authentic sound is!
INDUSTRY: HIP HOP DANCE CLASS
Industry Hip Hop: Artists will learn choreography in an industry-style setting as a group. This exercise is primarily to allow artists to familiarize themselves with learning choreography from a dancer’s perspective to have a better understanding of the creative process for a live performance. This class will be 60 minutes in length during the intensive.
TOUROGRAPHY CLASS
Utilizing the choreography learned from the industry hip hop session, artists will be asked to perform a set while incorporating their own personal styles to the stage. This workshop will focus on the essentials of stage etiquette, understanding your audience, and engaging with your dancers / cast. Artists will be provided feedback and tips on enhancing their performance technique during this 60-minute training.
INDUSTRY TALKS:
STYLING ON A BUDGET
In this course, artists will learn how to style fashionable and memorable looks on a budget from red carpet, music videos/photoshoots, marketing and everyday looks. Participants will receive guidance on creating a budget list and vision boards, in addition to building outfits from various articles of clothing. Participants should bring one piece of clothing they would like to receive styling tips on. Artists will also be provided with a variety of website references for fashionable clothing pieces.
STAGE PERFORMANCE 101
Participants will be learning about the basic elements of stage performance, movement coaching, breaking the fourth wall, and artist development as an introductory lesson.
"SO YOU THINK YOU NEED A MANAGER" SESSION
To have a successful and sustainable career in entertainment, having a talent manager can be just what an artist needs to get to the next level. However, it is important to know when to get a talent manager and how to find one that has the right skillset. In this session artists will learn everything they need to prepare to be managed. Through a series of interactive exercises students will learn what a talent manager’s role entails, what talent managers look for and how to find a talent manager.
"WORKING WITH A PRODUCER" SESSION
Artists will observe a presentation on how having different skills in the media field can impact their professional lives. Artists will nominate each other to do a different task in producing a record to submit to a licensing company, participants will then produce, perform/present the record. This exercise is to establish collaboration and create an ideal situation where networking and communication can be put to action. Course leaders will provide feedback upon completion.
ARTIST Q&A SESSION
In this session, a guest speaker will open the floor to any questions the artists may have about the performance-entertainment industry. Artists need to have questions prepared in advance for the guest speaker.
